The Director of the International School of Science Journalism Enzo Iarocci and the Course Directors Umberto Dosselli and Fabio Turone are pleased to announce the preliminary programme of the 2013 Course on Brain imaging and cognitive neuroscience that will take Place at the Majorana Centre of Scientific Culture in Erice from May 25th to May 29th, 2013.

The fee of 500 euros includes accomodation and meals. Registration will be open soon.

Part of the fellowships available covering tuition fees, accomodation, meals and travel costs will be reserved to the fellows of the previous editions interested in this year’s programme.

Requests* from people living outside the European Union will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

Fellowships are aimed at science journalists, science communicators and students in science journalism and communication.

The selection requires:
- For science journalists: at least three years of professional experience working/freelancing for general or popular science media;
- For science communicators: at least three years of professional experience working in a scientific organization, science museum or science centre or as a free lancer in a position of press officer, curator, editor of (web) publications, organizer of outreach activities or similar;
- For students: being a student in a master program in science journalism or science communication.

Candidates should send their CV and a motivation letter in which they describe:
1. their plans for their professional future
2. why they think participating in the summer school would benefit their career
3. how they perceive the challenge of communicating on neuroscience – and notably magnetic resonance imaging, which is the theme of the summer school this year – in general and in their current or future position.

Fellowships will cover:
- The fee of the School
- Travel expenses to and from Erice
- Staying in Erice

Umberto Dosselli, who is currently the director of the Frascati National Laboratory of the National Institute for Nuclear Physics, will be the Scientific Director, while science journalist Fabio Turone, president of Science Writers in Italy and associate member of the board of the European Union of Science Journalists’ Associations will be in charge of the journalism programme.

The theme of the 2013 edition – that will be held from May 25 to 29 in the extraordinary venue on top of Mount Erice dominating Trapani – is brain imaging and specifically Magnetic Resonance.

The Centro Fermi and the Ettore Majorana Centre for Scientific Culture will offer, like in the previous editions, some 30+ fellowships covering tuition, travel and accomodation for students based in Europe, in part reserved to fellows who took part in previous editions (the details and the instructions for applying will be published soon).
